How well are the Doves looked after?

Our Doves are in excellent condition due to the constant care of our own “Dr Dolittle”. We are based in the beautiful location of the Malvern Hills and they have the freedom to fly around the Hills whenever they want. They are also taken on regular training flights in order to keep them fit! They are fed the best quality corn mixture and vaccinated annually against disease.

We cherish our beautiful doves and their welfare is always uppermost in our minds.

How will the Doves look on your photographs?

Our pure White Doves are exceptionally photogenic and keep themselves clean, having access to their own “Bird Bath” whenever they want. Our own “Dr Dolittle” does his part by keeping their spacious loft in a clean, hygienic condition which gives them a healthy environment to live and breed in. We encourage our prospective customers to view our Doves to see for themselves how immaculate they look.

How will they behave in the confinement of their cage/basket?

Our Doves are used to being handled frequently and trained from an early age to become used to different surroundings. They patiently accept being in a confined space with members of their flock for short periods, whilst they are transported to various venues for training purposes. They are all members of the same “community” and therefore have no need to squabble or fight amongst themselves. They are “Doves of Peace”.

What display will they make upon release?

It is usual that after a short poem is read, or at a given signal, our Dove Co-ordinator will supervise the release of our Doves, either by hand or from cage or basket. He will co-ordinate the timing with the professional photographer, to ensure the moment is captured for posterity. Due to the diligent training and love of life, our Doves will give the most stunning, memorable display by flying out upon release and upwards, circling around a few times – for a good “photo-shoot” – then flying off towards the heavens, instinctively homeward bound.

Should I use another company which offers a cheaper price?

We do our utmost to offer a competitive price and most professional companies will charge approximately the same fee for similar services .  This could indicate that you are being offered untrained doves which may not be homing doves.  In which case they would not put on a display, but merely fly up onto the roof and have no instinct to fly home.  They would then either starve or become easy prey for any predators.  If  a discounted price is offered please hesitate before booking as you may regret it!

Is it cruel to release doves into the wild, if they are not used to fending for themselves?

Our birds are pure White Pedigree Doves highly trained to return home safely after their display. Dolittle Doves are not wild birds, but well trained with a magical homing instinct that enables them to find their way back.

How do they find their way home?

Our young birds are initially allowed to explore their own territory.  When they are confident we take them on regular training flights in the surrounding area, gradually taking them further afield in different directions.  They have the incentive of a good meal, a refreshing bath and possibly their mate to lure them back home.  What more can they want?  ... It's magic!

Would the Doves make a mess at an inappropriate time?

It would be extremely unlikely that the birds would make a mess at the wrong time as they normally do not do it in flight.   We will always give detailed instructions on how to handle the Doves correctly and position them so any "faux pas" would be directed away from your outfits.

Could we still release the Doves in bad weather conditions?

Rain is no problem to our Doves – although, like us, they do prefer blue sky & sunshine! Birds can fly in the rain - they do it all the time - so the Dove Release would probably still be able to take place. However we would not release them in fog, electrical storms or gale force winds as it would be difficult for them to navigate home. In this scenario we would not disappoint you – the birds could be kept on display for up to an hour, hold them for photographs, read a special poem with your guests and have a partial refund.

If we are getting married at a venue too far for you to travel, can you just send us the birds for us to release?

This would not be a professional practice, so you will find that no reputable company will do this.  Untrained handlers would be unable to give the Doves the care they needed and there are many complicated factors involved for the novice.  Our Doves are only trained to fly home within a 25 mile radius of the Malvern Hills and we would not subject them to the stress of flying in unknown territory. We are however happy to recommend other professional White Dove Release companies throughout the UK.

I can't decide between your packages for my wedding, what has the most meaning?

This is down to individual choice. There is something special about having a pair of birds as it demonstrates the bond between you and your Loved One. However a flock of Doves can also involve the Bridesmaids, friends and family and is quite emotional.  The choice is yours!

I’m on a limited budget, is there an alternative to hiring a professional company?

There really is no other choice.  This is a specialist service with trained birds and a professional Dove Co-ordinator and you risk the welfare of the birds and an extremely poor display if amateurs are considered.  Our Dolittle Dove Release Co-ordinator has a wealth of experience handling doves,  excited guests and photographers, not to mention many years experience in public speaking, which will enhance the magic of your special day.
